Haven't been sleeping well lately. Watching cooking shows about the proper way to pan fry chicken at 3 am. Makes me hungry.
The snow has melted and the ground is soggy. Today I saw 5 large crows picking through the field. They noticed me standing there and stared back at me. After what must have been a full minute of this strange staring contest they flew off one by one - in the direction of the barn. The last one cawed a warning as it flew low over the dead field. I am not going out to the barn today.

'Beware the Ides of March'
I listened to a great book yesterday on my trek down to Evansville and back. It was something I grabbed at random - The Road by Cormac McCarthy. It was amazing and the perfect book for me. A father/son story set in post-apocalyptic America. I recommend it highly.
It is cold today and raining - depressing as ever. The barn still sits in the field like a dark secret. I can see it from the window in the guest bedroom. Rising from the broken cornstalks clad in withered ancient boards and capped in rusted sheet metal. Before we leave here I am going to walk out to it. I will let you know.
